Amon Amarth have released their new single “Eight Legs of Thunder,” the latest and final preview of their upcoming album, The Allfather Awakens, due out October 2 via Metal Blade Records (pre-order).
Inspired by Sleipnir, Oden’s legendary eight-legged horse in Norse mythology, the track pairs a galloping main riff with a large sing-along chorus.
“Eight Legs of Thunder” arrives alongside an official music video directed by Dariusz Szermanowicz. Rather than taking a traditional Norse-inspired approach, the clip places the story in a modern American Western setting filled with cowboys, pickup trucks and open roads, with Sleipnir appearing during a surreal dream sequence.
Szermanowicz commented: “With ‘Eight Legs Of Thunder’, together with the band, we wanted to break the traditional metal music video mold once again. We fused the raw, dusty vibe of a modern western with the epic, dark mythology of Oden’s eight-legged steed.”
He added: “It’s a high-octane, cinematic ride packed with cowboy tension, raw action, and a touch of dark humor. We didn’t just want to make a music video—we wanted to deliver a visual knockout.”

The song follows previously released album tracks “Gjallarhorn,” “We Rule the Waves” and “Upphaf,” the latter marking Amon Amarth’s first acoustic excursion.
The Allfather Awakens features 10 tracks inspired by tales of conflict, sacrifice and Norse mythology. While Oden serves as a recurring presence throughout the album’s lyrics and artwork, the band have clarified that the record is not a concept album.
Amon Amarth recorded the album across two sessions at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark. The band also changed their usual writing process by developing material while on tour and focusing closely on individual songs during the recording sessions. Guitar-wise, the group moved away from the more modern sound of 5150 amps in favor of Marshalls.
Following the album’s release, Amon Amarth will embark on an extensive UK and European tour beginning October 9 in Manchester and wrapping up November 15 in Lisbon. The upcoming shows will feature a new stage production inspired by Oden’s Golden Hall.
