A few days after King Diamond announced the addition of Gus G. as the band’s new guitarist, longtime guitarist Andy LaRocque has shared a statement addressing his departure after more than four decades.
LaRocque confirmed that the split was a mutual decision and thanked fans for their support throughout his time with the band.
“Leaving a ‘family’ after more than 40 years full of great music, friends and lots of good memories is not an easy decision, but we mutually decided to part ways in a respectful and friendly manner wishing each other the absolute best for the future!” LaRocque wrote.
He added that his focus now shifts to writing new music and performing live with his band Lex Legion.
“Now is the time for me to move on with full focus and write some more music and play live with Lex Legion. Thanks for your support. See you out there!”
King Diamond previously announced Gus G. (Firewind, ex-Ozzy Osbourne) as LaRocque’s replacement, noting that he will compose, record, and tour with the band going forward. At the time, King Diamond also thanked LaRocque for his “extraordinary 40-year contribution” to the band, calling his impact “permanent and irreplaceable.”
LaRocque joined King Diamond in 1985 and became one of the band’s defining musicians, contributing to classic albums including Fatal Portrait, Abigail, Them, Conspiracy, The Eye, and many more over the next four decades.
