Behemoth have released their cover of Venom’s “In League with Satan,” featuring guest vocals from Dimmu Borgir frontman Shagrath.
The track appears on Behemoth’s new release, I, Scvlptor, which is out today digitally through Nuclear Blast Records and physically through Massacre Records. “In League with Satan” arrives alongside an official music video produced by Polish production collective Grupa 13.
“When we were looking for a name for our tour with Dimmu Borgir, I thought it would be great to use a timeless slogan and basically quote the gods of satanic rock’n’roll — Venom and ‘In League with Satan’ perfectly fit my vision,” Behemoth frontman Nergal explained.
“I honestly don’t remember what came first — the idea for the tour name or the idea of recording the song itself. What matters is that we recorded it on seven-string guitars with Shagrath from Dimmu as a guest vocalist. The song gained a massive weight and a completely new dimension. We’re planning to play it live and I think our version turned into something truly powerful.”
I, Scvlptor features eight previously unreleased recordings, including seven studio tracks and one live cut. The release includes newly recorded versions of early Behemoth songs “Rise of the Blackstorm of Evil” and “In Thy Pandemaeternum,” as well as the Venom cover and a live rendition of Bathory’s “The Return of Darkness and Evil” featuring Rotting Christ’s Sakis Tolis.
Nergal described I, Scvlptor as a bridge between the band’s current era and what may come next.
“We’re fucking excited about the release of I, Scvlptor,” he said. “Even though it’s not a regular studio album and is, in fact, more of a compilation, the mere fact that it contains songs nobody has ever heard before makes it a significant release for us.”
Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir will join forces next month for their “In League with Satan” co-headlining tour across Europe and the UK. Dark Funeral will provide support throughout the run, which kicks off October 9 in Zurich and concludes October 30 in Copenhagen.
