Emma Ruth Rundle has released “God’s Picture,” the latest single from her forthcoming album, These Killing Times, due September 18 through her own Errant Child imprint.
Rundle describes the song as the centerpiece and thesis statement of the new record, with lyrics addressing climate disaster, global conflict and class.
“‘God’s Picture’ is a meditation on the state of the world, particularly climate disaster, global conflict and class,” Rundle said. “Musically this song feels like a segue from Engine of Hell, with its gentle piano and guitar, to These Killing Times, with its more lush arrangements and message. This song is also a plea for the demolition of western hegemony.”
The track arrives with an official music video created in collaboration with Mason Rose and Blake Armstrong. Rundle constructed the sets for the video during the winter of 2025-26, drawing inspiration from the work of Jim Henson and, in particular, The Storyteller.
“The characters in ‘God’s Picture’ provide a way both to play and lightly explore the power structures and politics and themes of this time,” Rundle explained.
These Killing Times follows Rundle’s 2021 album, Engine of Hell, and sees her return to a full-band approach. The record features contributions from Jess Gowrie, Troy Zeigler, Patrick Shiroishi, Nick Reinhart, Gina Gleason, Marissa Nadler, Lukas Frank and Amelia Baker, and was recorded by longtime collaborator Sonny Diperri.
Rundle will spend October supporting All Them Witches on a North American tour with solo performances before launching her own full-band “These Killing Times Tour” with Cinder Well in November. She has also announced a spring 2027 European and UK tour, which concludes with an appearance at Roadburn in Tilburg, Netherlands.
