Death metal legends Cannibal Corpse and black metal masters Mayhem are currently embarked on a North American co-headlining tour, which began on September 22nd in Nashville, Tennessee. The tour, featuring stellar support from Gorguts and Blood Incantation, made a stop in New York City at Brooklyn Steel on Saturday night (September 30th).
Cannibal Corpse closed out the stacked evening with a powerful 14-song set, dishing out nasty heavy hitters like “I Cum Blood,” “Stripped, Raped and Strangled,” and “Hammer Smashed Face.” Guided by the unparalleled vocal prowess of George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, the band is presently reveling in the launch of their sixteenth studio album, ‘Chaos Horrific‘ on Metal Blade Records, a release that coincided with the commencement of their tour. Backed by the seasoned shredders Rob Barrett and Erik Rutan, as well as the thunderous rhythmic dexterity of drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz and bassist Alex Webster, the ensemble proceeded to treat NYC to vile new songs “Blood Blind,” “Chaos Horrific,” and the blistering “Summoned for Sacrifice.”
Cloaked in an eerie shroud of darkness, the maestros of Mayhem marked their triumphant return to the grand stage of the Big Apple, delivering a diabolical performance divided into three sinister acts. Led by the cryptic Attila Csihar, the band unleashed their fury upon Brooklyn, delivering a spellbinding performance featuring tracks from ‘Daemon,’ ‘Grand Declaration of War,’ ‘Chimera,’ and their EP ‘Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando.’ They dominated the stage with commanding renditions of songs such as “Worthless Abominations Destroyed,” “Crystalized Pain in Deconstruction,” and “Voces Ab Alta.”
Featuring old-school members Necrobutcher on bass and Hellhammer on drums, and joined by the steadfast guitarists Teloch and Ghul, Mayhem embarked on a malevolent trifecta with tracks from ‘De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas,’ offering up classics “Freezing Moon,” “Life Eternal,” and “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.” Closing out their set, the band dispensed ‘Deathcrush’ tunes like the EP’s pulverizing title-track, along with “Chainsaw Gutsfuck,” “Carnage,” and “Pure Fucking Armageddon.” The band are out on the road supporting their new live album, ‘Daemonic Rites.’
Gorguts demolished the stage with timeless tracks off their first full-length opus, ‘Considered Dead,’ offering the LP’s title-track, in addition to “Rottenatomy,” “Disincarnated,” and “Bodily Corrupted.” Meanwhile, Blood Incantation ignited the night’s anarchy with songs “Inner Paths (to Outer Space)” and “Awakening From the Dream of Existence to the Multidimensional Nature of Our Reality (Mirror of the Soul)” from their 2019 record ‘Hidden History of the Human Race,’ and also provided brand-new single “Obliquity of the Ecliptic.”
The ongoing tour is set to ignite stages in Salt Lake City, Boise, San Francisco, and Atlanta before coming to a close in Louisville, Kentucky at Paristown Hall on October 21st. Get tickets here.
