Forbidden have dropped another preview of their long-awaited new album with “Burning the Lungs of Earth,” a fast-moving thrash track that takes aim at humanity’s impact on the planet.
The song appears on the Bay Area thrash veterans’ upcoming self-titled album, which arrives October 23 through BLKIIBLK. Forbidden will be the band’s first full-length since 2010.
“‘Burning the Lungs of Earth’ is a fast paced thrasher with complex riffs, soaring melodic vocals, thunderous drums & bass,” guitarist Craig Locicero says. “The song mirrors the effects of mankind’s natural & unnatural disasters, coupled with the planetary cycle we find ourselves in decimating our ecosystems. Corporations, politicians & greed suffocating the planet.”
He continues: “First the smoke and seas will rise, the naive will remain blind. The world turns, the sun still shines as we slowly choke and die.”
Forbidden was produced by Locicero, drummer Chris Kontos and Zach Ohren, and runs for more than an hour across 11 tracks. The record also features Mastodon’s Brann Dailor as a guest on “Sycophantasy.”
“Making Forbidden felt more like an odyssey than a typical recording process,” Locicero says. “We set out to create a record that reminds people why they fell in love with thrash and heavy metal in the first place, embracing raw energy, melody, and the imperfections that give heavy music its character.”
Forbidden will take the new record on the road this fall with Heathen and Void. The headlining run starts on album release day, October 23, in Las Vegas and continues through a November 22 finale in Los Angeles.
