Hillhaven have released a music video for their latest single, “Out of Spite, Out of Mind,” ahead of a series of live performances scheduled for later this month.
The band, featuring vocalist Chris Kelly, drummer Zach Moiser and guitarist Jaime GoWell, blends hard rock and metalcore with influences from the 2000s. Their new track addresses anxiety, self-doubt and the frustration of feeling unable to move forward.
Kelly explained that the song grew out of his own struggles with motivation and the creative process.
“All too frequently, I wind up having these internal battles where anxiety winds up stalling out all ambition, all progress, all productivity,” he said. “Even as it’s happening, it feels so stupid. Like ‘why am I basically afraid of my computer right now?'”
He added that his difficulty writing the song’s vocal melodies and lyrics eventually became its central theme.
“Ultimately, it’s become something of a mission statement to myself, and a big ‘fuck you’ to the parts of my brain that try to stifle me.”
“Out of Spite, Out of Mind” follows the band’s previous single, “Dead Doesn’t Hurt,” which premiered through SiriusXM Octane.
Formed in 2024, Hillhaven have received regular airplay on SiriusXM Octane and made their live debut at the Christmas Burns Red festival, sharing the bill with August Burns Red, The Ghost Inside and The Devil Wears Prada, among others.
The group have also partnered with ADA for their upcoming releases, with additional new music in the works.
