Iron Maiden have teamed up with Z2 to release Somewhere In Time: The Graphic Album, a new graphic novel anthology celebrating the 40th anniversary of the band’s 1986 album Somewhere In Time. The book is scheduled for worldwide release on March 2, 2027.
The collection features eight science fiction stories inspired by the album’s tracks, along with a prologue and epilogue centered on the band’s mascot, Eddie. The additional stories, written by Kelly Sue DeConnick and illustrated by Andy MacDonald, explore events leading up to the album’s iconic cover artwork.
The project brings together a lineup of comic book writers and artists, including Steve Niles, Goran Parlov, David Dastmalchian, Corin Hardy, Leah Moore, John Reppion and Vincent Locke. The book also features an introduction by Bill Sienkiewicz.
Discussing the Somewhere In Time version of Eddie, guitarist Adrian Smith said: “It’s just a great version of Eddie, my favourite version of Eddie probably. There’s a real power there you know, a genuine power and menace.”
The graphic album also includes an interview with Smith conducted by Dave Shack of Phantom, reflecting on the writing and recording of Somewhere In Time and the album’s lasting impact.
Several editions of the book will be available, including Deluxe and Platinum versions housed in metallic Time Machine slipcases featuring artwork by Blake Armstrong. These editions include art prints of four different covers, while the Platinum edition adds four framed Eddie cards and a bookplate signed by Smith.
The Deluxe editions will also be packaged with rare 7-inch vinyl singles of “Wasted Years” and “Stranger In A Strange Land.” Additional cover variants by Tony Harris, Jay Geldhof and Dan Mumford will be available through select retailers.
Originally released in September 1986, Somewhere In Time was Iron Maiden’s sixth studio album and featured songs including “Wasted Years,” “Stranger In A Strange Land” and “Heaven Can Wait.”
The announcement comes as Iron Maiden continue their Run For Your Lives World Tour, with a final North American leg scheduled for spring 2027.
Somewhere In Time: The Graphic Album is available for pre-order (USA | Europe) ahead of its March 2 release.
