Mastodon have released the official music video for “Snakes For Dinner,” the latest single from their upcoming ninth studio album, Marrow Deep, due out August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings.
The new track features Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, a longtime friend of the band, and serves as the second single from Marrow Deep, following June’s “Your Ghost Again.”
Announcing the album and single to fans, the band shared: “It’s been quite the journey making this album, and we are very happy with how it came out, we can not wait for you to hear the whole thing!”
Marrow Deep marks Mastodon’s first studio album following the death of founding guitarist Brent Hinds, whose playing helped define the band’s sound across more than 25 years and eight studio albums.
The release of “Snakes For Dinner” also follows Mastodon’s recent tribute video reflecting on Hinds’ life, legacy, and the bond the members shared with him throughout the band’s career. In the emotional feature, the band addressed his passing directly, saying they wanted fans to hear their story after seeing the speculation and headlines surrounding his death.
“Brent was our family, someone we all loved wholeheartedly,” the band said. “He was a wild man, our wild man, and that came with some challenges. Both things are true and we aren’t interested in chasing one truth over the other.”
They also reflected on the difficulty of losing someone who had been by their side for 25 years, adding: “No more hugs, no more high fives, no more disagreements, no more making up. That part has been hard, it’s real.”
With Marrow Deep, Mastodon enter a new chapter while honoring the legacy of one of the band’s founding members. Between the release of “Snakes For Dinner,” Josh Homme’s guest appearance, and the band’s recent tribute to Hinds, the rollout balances looking ahead with reflecting on the past.
Mastodon will also return to the road this fall for the Poisonous Weapons Tour with Deafheaven and Alcest. The North American run kicks off September 16 in Orlando, FL, and will make stops in cities including Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Cleveland before concluding October 22 in Atlanta, GA.
Marrow Deep arrives August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings (pre-order, pre-save, and stream). Fans can watch the official music video for “Snakes For Dinner” now.
