Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray has shared an update on his health after he canceled two California shows, revealing that he has been dealing with vocal cord inflammation and a damaged blood vessel.
In a video message to fans, Gray explained that his voice had not felt right since the beginning of the tour. Initially suspecting allergies, he eventually sought medical attention after his condition failed to improve.
Gray said an ear, nose, and throat specialist in New York examined his vocal cords and discovered significant inflammation and a broken blood vessel, indicating that his vocal cord had previously hemorrhaged.
Despite the issues, Gray continued performing while adjusting his vocal approach to avoid further strain. Following a scheduled 11-day break, he underwent two additional examinations in Las Vegas, where a doctor observed improvement and cleared him to continue touring with extreme caution.
However, Gray’s condition worsened after he caught a cold from his wife, leaving him struggling to produce sound ahead of the band’s appearance at Aftershock.
“You know, I could barely make sound,” Gray explained, adding that canceling the two California performances was the best decision for both himself and the fans.
Gray also acknowledged that pushing his voice too far could potentially cause permanent damage.
The singer said he is now feeling better, although he is still recovering from the illness, and confirmed plans to return to the stage in Las Vegas before continuing the tour through Texas.
“We’ll just see how it goes,” Gray said of his return.
