Brazilian thrash metal band Nervosa have canceled their upcoming UK tour with Xentrix due to health concerns involving frontwoman and guitarist Prika Amaral, who has since revealed that she has been dealing with increasingly severe allergic reactions.
In a statement shared on social media, Nervosa confirmed that they would be unable to proceed with the UK dates but reassured fans that their upcoming North American tour remains scheduled to take place.
“We never cancel shows but unfortunately due to health concerns with Prika, we will not be able to make the UK run with Xentrix,” the band stated. “The tour in North America is NOT cancel and it will happen. Prika just needs time to get better and she will explain more in her social media.”
Amaral subsequently shared a detailed statement explaining that her health problems began during Nervosa’s North American tour in October 2024, when she experienced her first episode of cold urticaria, a condition that causes allergic reactions when exposed to cold temperatures.
Following the incident, Amaral consulted a specialist and underwent several tests, but said nothing abnormal was detected. With additional touring commitments approaching, she postponed further medical appointments.
However, the guitarist explained that her condition has worsened considerably over the past five months, with reactions now occurring even in relatively mild temperatures.
“Even sitting in a car with the air conditioning set to 21°C can trigger a reaction,” Amaral revealed.
She also reported developing additional allergic reactions to sunlight, sand, dish soap, sweat, sunscreen and other substances.
According to Amaral, a particularly severe episode occurred one day after an outdoor performance on a slightly chilly evening, causing swelling throughout her body, along with intense burning and itching.
“My entire body swelled up, and I experienced intense burning and itching all at once. I came very close to going into anaphylactic shock,” she explained.
Amaral said she had been taking antihistamines during recent performances and had tried various medications, but none had been completely effective.
“I’ve always put my work first, but I can’t keep doing that when my life is clearly at risk,” she stated.
As a result, Amaral plans to return to Brazil for further medical examinations and treatment, explaining that she needs to take at least two months away from performing.
“I’m coming back to Brazil to undergo a thorough investigation and get the proper treatment,” she said. “Everything is going to be fine, but I need to take at least two months off, and I need to do it now.”
Amaral apologized to fans in the UK and the Netherlands for the canceled performances and indicated that the band would have further news for them soon.
Despite the cancellations, she emphasized that Nervosa’s upcoming North American tour remains unaffected.
“To my fans in North America: the tour will definitely happen, and I’ll be ready to get back on stage!” she wrote.
Nervosa have not yet announced replacement dates for the canceled performances.
