Japanese metal pioneers Sigh have returned with their new single “Unputenpu,” the first preview of their upcoming studio album Goh-ka.
The track arrives alongside a new music video created by artist Costin Chioreanu and features a guest guitar lead from Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth.
Speaking about “Unputenpu,” Sigh mastermind Mirai Kawashima explained that the song builds on his use of shuffle rhythms throughout the band’s catalog while developing what he describes as his own Japanese approach to the style.
The song’s title and theme explore the idea of fate, fortune, and forces beyond human control. Kawashima describes “Unputenpu” as a reflection on how life can change unexpectedly, inspired by personal experiences he prefers to keep private.
Goh-ka will mark Sigh’s latest studio release, continuing the band’s long-running blend of extreme metal, experimental sounds, and traditional Japanese influences.
