A Canadian hospital recently brought the heavy metal experience directly to a patient who had always wanted to attend a live show.
Tim Berry, a 27-year-old metal fan receiving care at Bruyère Health in Ottawa, Ontario, had dreamed of experiencing a heavy metal concert but was unable to attend one due to his medical challenges. To help make that wish a reality, hospital staff worked with local community partners to organize a special performance inside the facility.
Canadian power metal band The Scepter performed a full set for Berry and other patients at the hospital, transforming a board room into a one-of-a-kind concert venue. Local Ottawa venue Dominion Tavern helped coordinate the event, while also providing sound and lighting equipment for the performance.
Hospital staff helped Berry get ready for the occasion, including painting his nails black and providing him with a custom concert ticket and a metal-themed outfit for the experience.
Bruyère Health shared, “Sometimes the best medicine is a little live music,” adding that the team worked with community partners after a patient shared his dream of experiencing a heavy metal concert.
The Scepter also reflected on the experience, saying it was their pleasure to perform for patients at Bruyère Health.
The special performance gave Berry and other patients the opportunity to experience the energy of a live metal show in a setting where they could safely enjoy the music.
