Slipknot’s “Arsenal” won’t appear on band’s next album, Jim Root confirms

Slipknot‘s new song “Arsenal” won’t be part of the band’s next album, according to guitarist Jim Root.

The track arrived on September 9 as Slipknot’s first new song in more than three years, but Root has now offered a little more context on the release while responding to fans on social media.

Asked whether “Arsenal” would appear on the new album, Root replied, “no. This was just one that we could finish ‘sooner’ to get out there.”

Root expanded on that in another response after a fan asked how he handles negative reactions to the song.

“Yea it depends on the commenter really. I mean. What’s their band doing?” he wrote. “And Arsenal was a tune we could quickly get out there while we work on the rest of the record. It’s not really representative of the other tunes.”

His comments not only confirm “Arsenal” as a standalone release, but also offer a small update on Slipknot’s next record, with Root indicating that the band is currently working on additional material.

“Arsenal” was released alongside a music video directed by Slipknot percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan and starring actor Jackson White. The song marked the band’s first new material in more than three years.

Further details on Slipknot’s next album, including a title or release date, have yet to be announced.
