Tarja teams up with Apocalyptica for new single “Tango”

Tarja Turunen has released a music video for her new single “Tango,” featuring Finnish cello metal band Apocalyptica. The collaboration appears on her latest studio album Frisson Noir.

The track combines tango-inspired rhythms with heavy guitars, drums and Apocalyptica’s signature cello arrangements, alongside Tarja’s operatic vocals.

“I wanted this song to be a special one, and as I have always loved the sound of the cello, Apocalyptica was the perfect artist to work with,” Tarja said. “Eicca, Perttu and Paavo made my dream come true.”

Apocalyptica, whose members have known Tarja since the mid-1990s, also reflected on the long-awaited collaboration.

“We have known Tarja since the mid-’90s and working with her has always been at the top of our list of featuring artists or collaborators,” the band stated. “It was so great to finally find the time and the song to work together.”

The accompanying music video features Tarja alongside Apocalyptica members Eicca Toppinen, Perttu Kivilaakso and Paavo Lötjönen.

A limited-edition 10-inch vinyl single of “Tango” will arrive November 27, with only 500 copies available worldwide. The release includes the album version of the song along with two previously unreleased recordings, “Tää Tango – Piano Demo” and “Tää Tango – Band Demo,” both exclusive to the vinyl edition.

Frisson Noir features 10 tracks and guest appearances from Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth, former Nightwish bassist and vocalist Marko Hietala, Apocalyptica and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The album was mixed by producer Neal Avron.

Tarja is currently on her International Frisson Live Tour 2026, which began September 30.
