Tomahawk and Melvins brought their “A Huge Waste of Your Time and Money” tour to Brooklyn Steel in Brooklyn, NY on July 28, delivering a night that celebrated two long-running heavy music institutions.
The outing marked Tomahawk’s first U.S. tour in 13 years and commemorated the band’s 25th anniversary. It also reunited the group with Melvins for their first tour together since the 2003 “Geek Show” run.
Melvins opened the evening with a 12-song set that mixed newer material with longtime fan favorites. The band worked through tracks including “Working the Ditch,” “Civilized Worm,” “A History of Bad Men,” “Honey Bucket,” and “Night Goat,” the latter featuring Tomahawk bassist Trevor Dunn.
Tomahawk followed with a career-spanning 21-song performance, pulling from across the band’s catalog with songs such as “Flashback,” “Business Casual,” “Capt. Midnight,” “Birdsong,” “Mayday,” and “God Hates a Coward.” The encore also included a live debut of “All the Way,” performed as a duet by Mike Patton and Duane Denison. According to the band’s setlist, “White Hats / Black Hats” was planned but ultimately omitted.
The tour continues through mid-August with stops across the United States before wrapping up in Los Angeles.
