Unleashed pay tribute to Venom’s Cronos with “Countess Bathory” cover in Greece

Swedish death metal veterans Unleashed paid tribute to late Venom frontman Conrad “Cronos” Lant during their October 7 concert at Gagarin 205 in Athens, Greece, performing a cover of the Venom classic “Countess Bathory.”

Unleashed originally recorded their version of “Countess Bathory” for their 1992 album, Shadows in the Deep, making the song a longstanding part of the band’s recording history.

Following news of Cronos’ death, Unleashed shared a tribute on social media, reflecting on the influence Venom had on the band’s frontman, Johnny Hedlund.

“Back in the day, when I came home from the record store with the LP ‘Welcome to Hell’, I thought, wow!! Like hardcore punk, but Metal with some serious attitude,” the statement began.

Hedlund also recalled watching a VHS recording of Venom performing at London’s Hammersmith Odeon, describing how Cronos’ stage presence inspired his own ambitions as a musician.

“I recall thinking, that if I ever become a musician and form a band, I wanna be a frontman just like that. Damn, the presence, the aggression, the sheer power, right in your face!!”

The tribute concluded: “Thank you for everything Mr. Cronos. See you in Valhalla! Johnny & The Boys.”
