Xasthur has announced a new full-length album, Open to Misinterpretation, arriving October 2, 2026, through Prophecy Productions. The project has also shared the album’s first advance single, “Put You Out of Your Misery.”
Written and recorded by Xasthur mastermind Scott Conner, the track explores themes of self-reflection and personal struggles. Conner explains, “This song revolves around reaching that inner crossroads where something has to give, and you either confront the issues that make you miserable or you are allowing them to destroy you.”
Open to Misinterpretation continues Xasthur’s evolution away from the project’s early black metal roots, embracing the dark American folk sound Conner has developed in recent years. The album features a more refined approach to songwriting, with expanded guitar work, prominent bass, and drum programming playing a larger role in the overall compositions.
The album follows Xasthur’s 2023 release Inevitably Dark and marks another chapter in Conner’s ongoing exploration of isolation, acceptance, and the darker sides of the human experience.
