Dead Poet Society have released a new standalone single, “Roach,” along with an accompanying music video co-directed by frontman Jack Underkofler and Mindreader.
According to the band, the song centers on feelings of resentment and the lingering effects of being wronged.
“Resent. That is what this song is about,” the band said. “It’s about those who have wronged you, taken advantage of you, hurt you. Let the feeling fester and consume you.”
The video expands on those themes, pairing the track with a dark and cinematic visual presentation.
“Roach” was produced by Paul Meany (Twenty One Pilots, Pierce the Veil), mixed by Adam Hawkins (Turnstile, Yungblud), and recorded at Valley View Studios and The Park in Los Angeles.
The release follows last month’s standalone single “Sinner Systems,” which marked the band’s first new music since their 2024 album Fission. At the time, Dead Poet Society said the song was inspired by modern excess and emotional numbness.
Dead Poet Society consists of Jack Underkofler (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Jack Collins (guitar, backing vocals, drum programming, keyboards), Dylan Brenner (bass, additional guitars), and Will Goodroad (drums). The Los Angeles-based band has released two full-length albums to date: -!- (2021) and Fission (2024).
