Saint Vitus hosted a grand reopening show with Anthrax

Anthrax reopen Saint Vitus with intimate Brooklyn show (videos)

Anthrax helped usher in a new era for Saint Vitus on Friday night (September 4), performing an intimate show to celebrate the grand reopening of the beloved Brooklyn venue.

The concert marked the first show at Saint Vitus’ new home at 428 Troutman Street in Bushwick, following the closure of its longtime Greenpoint location in 2024. As previously reported, Anthrax also filmed the entire performance.

The 16-song performance mixed Anthrax staples with rarities, new material and a few surprises. The band opened with “It’s for the Kids” before moving into their cover of Joe Jackson’s “Got the Time,” followed by “Madhouse” and “Metal Thrashing Mad.”

Among the rarities were “Now It’s Dark” and “Lone Justice,” both performed for the first time since 2021. Anthrax also delivered the live debuts of “The Edge of Perfection” and “Clobberin’ Time,” their cover of Sick of It All, which they performed as a tribute to late Sick of It All frontman Lou Koller.

Another new song, “Everybody’s Got a Plan,” was played live in full for the first time. The set also included longtime favorites “Caught in a Mosh,” “Antisocial” and “Indians,” with the latter featuring an outro of KISS’ “Love Gun.”

Toward the end of the night, Anthrax performed “NYC 93” while playing along to the album version of the song as part of a music video shoot, repeating it a second time for filming.

Fan-filmed footage from the show has since surfaced online, including performances of “It’s for the Kids,” “Lone Justice,” “Antisocial,” “Metal Thrashing Mad,” “Madhouse” and “Indians.” Check out the clips below.

Anthrax previously played two intimate concerts at Saint Vitus’ original location in 2016, making the band a fitting choice to headline the first show at the venue’s new Bushwick home.

The grand reopening also kicks off a packed schedule at Saint Vitus over the coming months. As previously reported, upcoming shows at the new location include Converge, The Callous Daoboys, Terror, Immolation, Rivers of Nihil, All Shall Perish, Carnifex, Incendiary, Overkill, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Blackbraid, Forbidden, Torche, Ho99o9 and Pig Destroyer, among many others.
