My Chemical Romance bring ‘The Black Parade’ to NYC

My Chemical Romance brought their “The Black Parade 2026” tour to a sold-out Citi Field in Queens on August 9, giving fans a full theatrical performance of The Black Parade before switching things up with a more intimate B-stage set.

Franz Ferdinand opened the night with a 10-song set that included “The Dark of the Matinée,” “No You Girls,” “Do You Want To,” “Love Illumination” and “Take Me Out,” with the latter dedicated to My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero and his family. The band closed their set with “This Fire,” setting the stage for the headliners.

My Chemical Romance opened their set with “Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra playing over the speakers before taking the stage and launching into The Black Parade with “The End.” From there, the album was performed in its entirety, moving through “Dead!,” “This Is How I Disappear,” “The Sharpest Lives,” “Welcome to the Black Parade,” “I Don’t Love You” and the rest of the record.

With a massive stage setup, two large LED screens and an extensive lighting rig, the production was built to match the theatrical nature of the album. The screens frequently showed close-up shots of the band, while bursts of pyro added to some of the bigger moments throughout the set.

The performance also included appearances from actor Charlie Saxton, who has taken on a theatrical role throughout the band’s current shows. His appearances helped connect some of the various sections of the performance, adding another layer to the already elaborate production.

By the time the band reached “Mama,” the show had fully embraced its theatrical side, with Charlotte Kelso appearing as Nurse Sylvia. The song featured an extended “Dagger” bridge and outro before the band continued through “Sleep,” “Teenagers,” “Disenchanted” and “Famous Last Words.” The first portion of the show closed with a piano and violin rendition of “The End.” before “Blood” played over the speakers.

After an intermission, the band began making their way toward the B-stage, positioned in the middle of the Citi Field floor. During the transition, cellist Clarice Jensen performed pieces including her own song “Metastable” and a rendition of “Romance,” providing a quieter break between the two sections of the show before My Chemical Romance took the smaller stage.

The more stripped-down setting offered a completely different feel from the massive production of the first half. Gerard Way and the band moved through “Honey, This Mirror Isn’t Big Enough for the Two of Us,” “I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” “Give ’Em Hell, Kid” and “Summertime,” followed by “Heaven Help Us” and “Na Na Na.”

The B-stage set also included the tour debut of “Bulletproof Heart,” performed in its “Trans Am” version, as well as “Bury Me in Black” and “Helena.” The night eventually came to a close with “Demolition Lovers,” performed with strings and piano.

While the first half of the night was built around the spectacle of The Black Parade, the B-stage portion gave the crowd a chance to see the band in a more intimate setting. Together, the two parts made for a show that balanced the theatrical world My Chemical Romance have built around The Black Parade with a set of songs spanning their wider catalog.

With Citi Field packed from the floor to the upper levels, the reaction throughout the night made it clear just how much The Black Parade continues to mean to the band’s audience nearly two decades after its release.

My Chemical Romance will continue “The Black Parade 2026” tour with upcoming stadium dates across the U.S., followed by five nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in October.
