Australian technical death metal veterans Psycroptic have released their new single, “Ashes Of A New Dawn,” along with an accompanying music video. The track appears on the band’s upcoming album, The Pulse of Annihilation, which arrives this Friday, July 17, via Metal Blade Records.
Bassist Todd Stern praised the song’s dynamic nature, saying: “Loooooove this song. It’s the type of song that gives you imagery as you listen. Slow, melty intro… next thing you know you have to run for your life. Great moments of intensity, all in good fun. It’s aggressive as fuck but it’s also like a party song! Highly recommended.”
Vocalist Jason Peppiatt added: “Lyrically, this song is kind of a sequel to ‘Ashes of Our Empire’ off the Divine Council album but musically it’s a total Joe Haley riff fest!”
According to the band, The Pulse Of Annihilation showcases Psycroptic’s continued evolution, balancing the technical precision they’re known for with more refined songwriting.
“My favorite thing about the catalog of this band is that it truly gets more mature with each release,” Stern explained. “Our newest material is the most ‘grown,’ so to speak. This record maintains the razor-sharp wit that PSYCROPTIC is kinda known for, but it also has this element to the song writing that feels a bit more masterful than ever before.”
Ahead of the album’s release, The Pulse of Annihilation will stream in full on YouTube tonight (July 16) at 10 PM ET / 7 PM PT, with the band joining fans for a live chat.
