Skid Row’s Snake Sabo and Justin Sargent discuss new singer announcement, The Who cover

Skid Row guitarist Snake Sabo and newly announced vocalist Justin Sargent recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk, where they discussed the band’s decision to introduce Sargent with a cover of The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

During the interview, Sabo revealed that the idea to cover the song came from Sargent and that the band had been working together for several months before making the lineup change public.

“We didn’t think that things were fully formed yet to be doing a new Skid Row song,” Sabo explained. “So we said, ‘Well, let’s do something that’s inspiring and influential to us.'”

Sabo said the band recorded the cover with producer Nick Raskulinecz, adapting the original song’s synthesizer sections for guitar and shortening its runtime. He also noted that the recording sessions helped confirm their decision to move forward with Sargent.

“We ran the set numerous times. We’ve worked on new material in Rachel’s studio. And then we went into the studio with Nick Raskulinecz, and that was, without us even knowing it, kind of the last box that needed to be checked,” Sabo said.

Sargent, meanwhile, described joining Skid Row as a surreal experience and explained that the band spent considerable time getting to know one another before officially confirming his role.

“Nothing was rushed into. We wanted to make sure that it was a good fit, that we could all be in a room together and hang and have a great rapport,” Sargent said.

He added that the chemistry felt right from their first meeting and continued to develop over the following months.

Skid Row officially introduced Sargent as their new vocalist alongside the release of “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” which arrived with an accompanying music video. The band has also confirmed plans for new material and upcoming live performances.
