Jim Root clarifies earlier comments about Sid Wilson’s Slipknot departure

Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has addressed his earlier comments regarding reports surrounding Sid Wilson’s status with the band, saying he “didn’t know what to believe” when he initially told fans not to rush to conclusions.

In a new social media post, Root wrote: “You couldn’t even believe what I wrote. At the time I wrote it… I didn’t know what to believe. I stand by it though. I still don’t think anyone should believe everything they read. Time will tell. As it did for my post that didn’t age well.”

Root’s latest comments revisit a message he shared shortly after TMZ first reported that Wilson had allegedly been removed from Slipknot. At the time, Root wrote:

“Don’t believe every thing you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”

The situation has since changed considerably. On August 14, Slipknot briefly posted a statement saying that Wilson would “no longer be associated with” the band. The statement was deleted shortly afterward, but Slipknot’s official Knotfest account later confirmed the message.

Wilson has not publicly commented on his reported departure.

Root’s latest statement appears to acknowledge that his earlier post has not aged particularly well, while maintaining that fans should be cautious about believing reports and speculation before all of the details are known.

The comments also come as other people connected to the band have revisited their own earlier reactions to the reports.

Stacy Thomson, the wife of Slipknot guitarist Mick Thomson, initially shared a cryptic reference to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off that fans interpreted as a response to the reports surrounding Wilson. She later clarified that her message was simply a reminder not to believe everything found online.

Following Slipknot’s apparent confirmation of Wilson’s departure, Stacy was also questioned by fans about her earlier comments. In response, she said: “oh stop it wasn’t true when TMZ posted it. And I assure you the guys ALL always give chances.”

TMZ initially reported on July 31 that Wilson had been permanently removed from Slipknot, citing a source with direct knowledge of the situation. The outlet later reported that the band had allegedly grown frustrated with Wilson’s behavior toward other members.

Wilson recently appeared at the World Scratch Invitational, where he introduced himself as “Sid, DJ Starscream/#0, from the world famous Slipknot,” just days before the band’s apparent confirmation of his departure.

The circumstances surrounding Wilson’s exit remain unclear, and neither Wilson nor Slipknot has publicly provided a detailed explanation for the decision.
