Norwegian progressive metal veterans Enslaved have released “Spirit Helper,” a new collaborative single featuring Kevin Kicking Woman, an Elder of the Blackfeet Nation.
The song grew out of relationships formed through the Fire In The Mountains festival, held on Blackfeet Nation land in Montana, where Enslaved will return to perform later this month. According to the band, “Spirit Helper” is the result of years of cultural exchange, friendship, and collaboration.
Kevin Kicking Woman said of the track: “Songs are the Blackfoot way of knowing… Spirit Helper is the physical documentation in this process.”
Enslaved guitarist and songwriter Ivar Bjørnson described the song as “one of the most meaningful musical journeys we have undertaken,” adding that it represents “connection – between past and present, traditions and people, and the spiritual and human worlds.”
The accompanying artwork was created by Blackfeet artist Nicholas Rink, while the official music video is available now.
Enslaved’s upcoming live dates include an appearance at Fire In The Mountains in Montana later this month, followed by performances in Norway, including a Halloween show with Dimmu Borgir and Satyricon in Oslo.
