Shinedown bassist and vocalist Eric Bass has announced that he will sit out the beginning of the band’s upcoming tour as he focuses on his mental health.
In a video shared on social media, Bass revealed that he experienced what he described as a “pretty serious mental health crash” a few weeks ago and decided it was not the right time to head back out on the road.
“I don’t really feel it’s the wise thing for me to do to go out on tour right now,” Bass said, adding that he wanted to speak openly about the situation rather than disappear without explanation.
Bass shared that he is currently undergoing transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment for depression at the Medical University of South Carolina, along with talk therapy, and said he is already “feeling way better.”
While he did not provide a timeline for his return, Bass said he hopes to be back with the band as soon as possible. In the meantime, friends Josh Sturm and Zack Mack will fill in during Shinedown’s upcoming dates.
Bass also encouraged others facing mental health struggles to seek help when they need it.
“I did something I’ve never done before in my 51 years on Earth,” he said. “I reached out to someone and I said, ‘I can’t do this on my own and I need help.’”
He closed the message by thanking fans for their understanding and encouraging them to continue supporting Shinedown on the Dance, Kid, Dance Act II World Tour while he focuses on his recovery.
