Dropkick Murphys have released their version of “The Body of an American,” taken from the upcoming tribute album 20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan, due out November 13.
The track pays tribute to the late Shane MacGowan and his work with The Pogues. According to vocalist Ken Casey, MacGowan’s songwriting had a major influence on both the band and its members individually.
“Dropkick Murphys are honored to be a part of this Shane tribute,” Casey said. “’The Body of an American’ is a Dropkick all-time favorite and we’ve played it live throughout the years, so to get to record it for this tribute was a dream come true.”
The tribute album will also feature contributions from artists including Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, and Hozier.
In other news, the band’s New England Forever split LP with Haywire arrives in stores on June 26, while their song “Dropped On My Head” has been selected as the theme song for the upcoming MGM+ crime drama The Westies.
Dropkick Murphys return to the road this week for UK dates, followed by European festivals, North American shows, and an Australia/New Zealand tour with Rise Against later this year. Get more info here.
