Sid Wilson appears to confirm Slipknot departure with Instagram bio update

Sid Wilson appears to have confirmed that his time with Slipknot has come to an end, making a subtle but notable change to his Instagram bio today, August 16.

Wilson’s bio previously identified him as being with Slipknot since 1997. It now reads:

@slipknot 1997-2026

The update comes just two days after Slipknot announced that it was no longer associated with Wilson in a since-deleted social media post. The statement read:

Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson.

We wish him the best in his future endeavors.

The statement was later confirmed through the band’s official Knotfest account after the original post was removed.

Wilson’s Instagram update is his clearest acknowledgment yet that he is no longer part of the band. He has not issued a separate statement explaining his departure or the circumstances surrounding the split.

The update also brings another chapter to a story that has been surrounded by conflicting reports and cryptic comments over the past several weeks.

TMZ first reported on July 31 that Wilson had been permanently removed from Slipknot. The report was followed by comments from guitarist Jim Root urging fans not to believe everything they read. Root later acknowledged that his earlier post “didn’t age well,” while maintaining that fans should wait for more information.

Stacy Thomson, wife of guitarist Mick Thomson, also made several comments that fans connected to the situation before later pushing back on the reports.

Wilson himself continued to publicly identify as a Slipknot member as recently as last week, when he introduced himself at the World Scratch Invitational as “Sid, DJ Starscream/#0, from the world famous Slipknot.”

Now, with his own Instagram bio listing his Slipknot tenure as 1997-2026, Wilson appears to have quietly confirmed what the band announced on August 14.

The longtime DJ and turntablist joined Slipknot in the late 1990s and became one of the most recognizable members of the band’s classic lineup.

Neither Wilson nor Slipknot has provided a detailed explanation for the split.
